March 17th: We just heard that Leela is back on the surgical calendar. Tomorrow (Friday) we will have to get to the
hospital at 6am. Maya will spend the night with friends. The surgery is
schedule for 7:30am. However, according
to Jessica, our oncology nurse, if Leela temperature is over 99, then the
surgery might be cancelled again. I
wish I could tell you that she has been feeling great and has had a normal
temperature today—most of today she has been hovering in the 99 to 100 range
with the highest readings first thing in the morning. Hence, there is a good chance the surgery could be cancelled
again. So send your cooling thoughts
and prayers Leela’s way.
If the surgery does go forward, the plan would be to give
her an MRI and then her first day of the first course of chemo. It will be a full day, and she will spend
the night in the hospital. The next day
she will receive the second part of her first course of chemo—each course is
given over two days. Geetha and I will
get trained in how to care for the broviac catheter. We will have to demonstrate that we can do whatever needs to be
done with it before Leela will be discharged the next day.
